Patroclos: A Noble Warrior Indeed

Patroclos is a noble comrade and warrior. Do you agree? Prove your answer by citing details from the book.

Finally Achilles' best friend Patroclos thought of an idea. He put on Achilles' famous armor and went out to fight. Both the Greeks and the Trojans thought Achilles had come back to the battle and the Greeks won a big victory, but Patroclos was killed in the fighting: he might dress like Achilles but he could not fight like him.
When Achilles heard that Patroclos was dead, he was ashamed of how he had been sulking. He agreed to fight again. Now the Greeks really started to win. So the best Trojan fighter, Prince Hector, came out from Troy to fight Achilles. They fought for a long time, but finally Achilles killed Hector.

Hector's father, King Priam, came to Achilles at night to ask for his son's body back, and Achilles gave it to him.

A short scene of Patroclos at The Iliad

Patroclos is indeed a great, noble warrior for he tried to save the Acheans from the Troy Warriors, even though his role in the story is just short, it is very significant for he tried to save thousands of lives against the Warriors of Troy. He was killed by Hector because of that he encourage the Warriors of Achaeans to fight against the Mighty Warriors of Troy.

Even though he isn't that Good as a Warrior, He is still more greater than the Warriors of Acheans because he save thousands of lives. Yeah, he should be called a Hero!

Achilles, He wants Honor.

1. Analyze the character of Achilles as shown in Books 9-11. Are his decisions appropriate for a king like him? Why/ why not? What kind of warrior is he?

For me, it is proper that he declined the offer of Agammenmon which is said by Odysseus. We can think that it isn't right but actually it is a bribe for they wanted Achilles back in Agammenmon's army.

It is already in the latter part when Achilles did very inappropriate. He is very arrogant for he thinks that people should thank him for every good did that he made. I know that it isn't a big gratitude. But being well known and remembering his name for a deed he makes.

He is very impossible, he wants something that is very impossible just for him to go back to battle. He wants Thousands, Millions of Gold greater than that of Thebes offer and more than what Agamemnon offers.

It isn't a honor for him that he should fight, it is for the people that in the war.

Menelaus Against Paris

In Greek mythology, Menelaus (Ancient Greek: Μενέλαος) was a legendary king of Mycenaean (pre-Dorian) Sparta, the husband of Helen, and a central figure in the Trojan War. He was the son of Atreus and Aerope, and brother of Agamemnon king of Mycenae and leader of the Greek army during the War. Prominent in both the Iliad and Odyssey, Menelaus was also popular in Greek vase painting and Greek tragedy; the latter more as a hero of the Trojan War than as a member of the doomed House of Atreus.

Short description of Menelaus via Wikipedia.

QUESTION NO.3
3. Between Paris and Menelaus, who do you consider as a nobler/greater/more honorable man?
· What incidents support your answer?
· Who can be cited as a modern day Paris/Menelaus? Why?

Who will you Choose? The one who cause all the Chaos and Damaged or The one who fights Fair?

If you'd ask me, I will choose the one who fights fair. Does anyone wants Chaos, war and Damage? I'm sure no one. So to compare Menelaus or Paris. I would choose Menelaus. First, Paris is Weak, He ask help from Gods unlike Menelaus he used his own strength to defeat Paris. Menelaus defeated Paris without the help of any God.

Menelaus is far more honorable than Paris because he did everything just to have his wife back from Paris. Noble means Impressive, Is it impressive when you try to get other wife from other man? No, of course not.

Can we say that Paris is Noble? Well, think of it.

If I were to compare Menelaus to anyone, I would choose NoyNoy Aquino. He did everything he can to be the President of the Philippines without any bias from the People. Like Menelaus he did everything just to have his wife back.
